Analysis of the quality of your hydraulics’ oil
The quality of the hydraulic oil is an important factor for the proper functioning of the hydraulics systems and equipment. 80% of hydraulic breakdowns are due to poor oil quality, hence the importance of thorough control. First, checking the oil level, the operating temperature, and the absence of leakage can be done internally by an operator.
This help to make your first inventory of the oil network. However, any other operation on the hydraulic installation must be carried out according to precise procedures, which require the use of specific devices such as the intervention of qualified persons. Thus, the assessment of the quality of the oil by hydraulic specialists comes step by step in three stages:
• The viscochemical characterization meaning the texture of the oil and its adhering power;
• Analysis of the water content;
• The determination of the pollution class related to the presence of solid microparticles in the oil (note that 90% of the hydraulic failures related to the quality of the oil are due to these particles).
Draining and replacing used filters
It’s essential to use a filtration unit when adding oil for levelling and emptying your hydraulic equipment. In this way, the new oil is first filtered before being poured into the machine. Similarly precautions should be taken when cleaning the inner walls of the tank. Indeed, it must be ensured that no impurity (for example solid particles) enters inside your hydraulic circuit to avoid significant damage, especially on sharp industrial equipment.
Verification of other components of the hydraulic system
To ensure proper maintenance of the hydraulic system, it is also important to check the condition and operation of the other parts and identify any anomalies and signs of wear. These parts are: rotating assemblies, pumps and motor, air filters (often neglected point but may be the cause of a failure), cylinder rods, hoses, fittings … etc. Finally, it is possible to control the state and the efficiency of the pump or motor rotating assemblies, meaning to control of their flow rates, their pressures and their flow rates of drains.
Specific instruments can be installed on the hydraulic unit on a temporary basis so that these parameters can be monitored periodically or permanently to allow continuous monitoring to anticipate failures and thus improve performance.
The proper functioning of a hydraulic power unit depends primarily on the quality of the hydraulic oil.
